Of the two things that Putin asks of the West, he has long since achieved one.

Due to his military interventions in Ukraine and Georgia, it is practically impossible for the two countries to become members of NATO, even though they were once promised to do so.

It will not accept any states with unresolved territorial conflicts, especially not if they have one with Russia.

The Kremlin ruler has himself to blame for the other thing: the fact that the West is bringing more weapons closer to his country is a result of the Russian attacks on his neighbors.

Even now, Putin is (indirectly) threatening it again.

Who would enter into a “security guarantee” agreement with someone like that, especially with someone who so often deceives and lies?

You have to keep thinking about what Putin is asking.

He doesn't just want to dictate to NATO where its borders are (he interferes from America to Europe to the Middle East wherever it suits him).

He also denies his neighboring countries the freedom to determine their own fate.

Biden said what was necessary even before the two video summit: that he would not accept red lines from Moscow.

Hopefully the new federal government will join in too.

German appeasement policy has made it easy for Putin time and again.
