China News Service, Toronto, December 6 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement on December 6 stating that he has accepted the resignation of Canadian Ambassador to China, Dominic Barton.

Bao Damin responded to many mainstream Canadian media that he will step down on December 31 this year.

He expressed his belief that Canada-China relations are vital to Canada's future.

Trudeau expressed his gratitude and respect to Bao Damin.

He said that during Bao Damin's tenure as ambassador to China, it was at a time when Canada-China relations were facing difficulties and challenges.

Thanks to Bao Damin's efforts, Canada is now able to better handle important relations with China and achieve Canada's diplomatic goals.

Born in Uganda in 1962, Bao Damin was previously the honorary global president of McKinsey & Company, a world-renowned management consulting company, and served as the chairman and global president of McKinsey & Company from 2009 to 2018.

Trudeau appointed Bao Damin as Canada's ambassador to China in September 2019.

The former ambassador to China, John McCallum, resigned in late January 2019.

In a seminar organized by the Canada-China Business Council in late September this year, Bao Damin used a video speech to call on Canadian companies to seize the opportunities of economic development in Asia and China and study China's "14th Five-Year Plan".
