The ministerial-level meeting, which began on the night of the 7th, was the first time in Asia that South Korea held a discussion on what the United Nations peacekeeping should be.



Initially, participants were scheduled to gather at the venue in Seoul, but due to the influence of a new mutant virus, Omicron strain, it will be switched to the online format, and it is expected that more than 70 countries and international organizations including Japan will make announcements.



At the meeting, UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a video message saying, "We are currently facing the highest number of conflicts since 1945. The conflict is more complicated, partly due to the new coronavirus and climate change. It's been a long time, and peacekeeping is more important than ever. "



In addition, representatives from each country have pointed out that PKO is becoming more difficult due to new risks such as cyber attacks in addition to infectious diseases, and strengthening PKO by training personnel and improving equipment and medical environment. There were a series of statements of support for this.



The meeting will be held until the 8th, confirming the cooperation of each country for peacekeeping operations, and will lead to the strengthening of activities.
