In the Faroe Islands, NATO country Denmark wants to build a new radar base that will be able to see all planes flying over the region, but the issue is sensitive.

The Faroe Islands are dependent on fish exports and a major customer is Russia, which has warned NATO of establishing itself in the region.

However, Foreign Minister Jenis of Rana believes that radar is not a military issue.

- That it may be part of the overall military image for NATO is possible.

But there will be no military in the Faroe Islands, he says.

The opposition: We will be a strategic bomb target

The Faroese opposition accuses the government of being too pro-Danish, and of running over critics.

Member of Parliament Bjárni Kárason Petersen would like the Faroe Islands to round Denmark and negotiate directly with NATO based on their own demands - and then operate the radar themselves.

- If the Faroe Islands get a radar, then we will partly be a strategic bomb target, for example, says Kárason Petersen

- We may risk losing a large part of our exports to Russia.

It could crush the Faroe Islands' economy, he continues.
