Several people were injured in a major fire in a five-story building in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne) this Sunday.

The fire that started in an apartment in the Léo-Lagrange district required the mobilization of 200 firefighters and around sixty machines.

The firefighters said they had rescued 15 people trapped in the flames, reports Actu Val-de-Marne.

Intoxicated by smoke

The incident left one seriously injured and five minor injuries intoxicated by the smoke emitted by the fire.

Thirty people were taken to shelter in a city gymnasium.

The fire was an opportunity for the municipal opposition group Villejuif Rassemblage to recall the dangers posed by the uncontrolled parking of certain cars.

“Firefighters are literally hampered in their work,” members said.

On Facebook, the former mayor LR Franck Le Bohellec estimated that “the municipal police, when it still existed” assisted the emergency services in their interventions, in particular by helping them to circulate.

On the social network, Pierre Garzon, current PC mayor, “expressed [his] indignation at the comments made”.
