On Tuesday, French authorities arrested a person named Khaled Al-Otaibi, suspected of being part of the team that killed Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

The French press agency quoted an informed source as saying that the police arrested Al-Otaibi, 33, at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, while he was preparing to board a plane bound for Riyadh.

Another (judicial) source stated - in a statement to the same agency - that Al-Otaibi was placed in pretrial detention as part of the implementation of an international arrest warrant issued by Turkey.

Al-Otaibi will remain in pretrial detention until tomorrow, Wednesday, when he will appear before the Public Prosecution at the Court of Appeal in Paris and will be notified of the arrest warrant, according to the source.

For its part, RTL radio said that the arrested person is a former member of the Saudi Royal Guard, and it is believed that he participated in the killing of Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

And Reuters news agency quoted a French police source as saying that French prosecutors will begin procedures for the extradition of the suspect in Khashoggi's murder to Turkey.

On October 2, 2018, Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to complete his marriage transaction.

According to US and Turkish officials, a Saudi hit squad strangled him and dismembered his body, which was never found, and Saudi Arabia said Khashoggi was killed by agents who acted on their own.
