The President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, said that his country discussed with the UAE side strengthening partnership in many sectors, including hydrogen, energy development, tourism, and other opportunities, noting that the UAE is the ideal partner for Costa Rica in the region.

And he stated during a press conference held at Expo 2020 Dubai yesterday, on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Costa Rica, in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, that his country seeks to strengthen relations of cooperation and partnership with the UAE. In several vital sectors, including food security and logistics.

With regard to food security, he said: "We are working on standards for halal products, as part of an effort to export them to the UAE and regional markets."

He stressed his country's quest to achieve more cooperation with the UAE during the coming period, adding that "in the coming months and years, there will be more cooperation and partnership between the two countries," explaining that "Costa Rica and the UAE have common goals in terms of future aspirations, including the green economy." and sustainability.”

And he indicated that “Costa Rica is the first country in the continent in terms of the proportion of electric cars per capita.

He referred to the prospects for developing relations and raising levels of trade exchange, and the role of the logistics sector in this context, explaining that "with regard to the aviation sector, the UAE has a leading air transport system."

According to the Dubai Chamber, non-oil bilateral trade between Dubai and Costa Rica grew by 12% from 2019 to 2020, reaching $112 million.

Non-oil trade between Dubai and Costa Rica reached $64 million in the first half of this year.
