This Saturday, in Haute-Savoie, a 23-year-old young man buried under a two-meter snowfall was saved by his friends.

With three comrades, he was on a ski hike at the level of the Sotty valley, towards the Balafrasse pass, reports

Carried away by an avalanche due to bad weather conditions, the victim stayed ten minutes in the snow before being cleared by his friends.

"Experienced in rescue techniques and in the mountains", according to a rescuer, they were able to save the skier.

Call for vigilance

Soldiers from the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) and rescuers from the mountain fire brigade group (GMSP) went to the scene, at an altitude of 1,800 meters.

Accompanied by a doctor and a quad, they took charge of the victim, injured in the lower limbs.

The young man was transported to the Center hospitalier Alpes Léman.

The Haute-Savoie prefecture calls for caution in the face of the high risk of avalanches.
