Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, met the members of the Italian Publishers Association, where she learned about the challenges they face, and reviewed a number of the Federation's initiatives aimed at empowering publishers and stakeholders working in the publishing sector, by paving the way for them to recover in the post-public era. This came during a visit made by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi to the Italian capital, Rome, where she was accompanied by the Italian Minister of Cultural Affairs, Dario Franceschini, at the opening of this year's session of the "Pio Libera Pio Libere" book fair, the first national fair dedicated to independent small and medium publishing houses in Italy. It brings together more than 500 publishers from all over Italy annually, as a platform to exchange knowledge and share developments with the public.

After hearing from the participants in the meeting about the practical challenges they face on the ground during the “Corona” crisis and their future plans, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi praised the Italian publishers community, and their great efforts to boost book sales, which contributed to raising them by 16.3% compared to last year.

She indicated that these challenges still face the publishing sector despite the positive signs of recovery, and that cooperation and joint work play a pivotal role in the development of companies and the publishing sector, calling on the participants in the meeting to enhance flexibility by working hand in hand, and confirmed that this goal was behind the launch of the Federation. For the global plan to enhance the sustainability and resilience of the publishing industry (Inspire), which witnessed the joining of the European Publishers Association, and 50 international bodies, institutions and organizations, and expressed its aspiration that more Italian publishers and stakeholders in the publishing sector in Italy would join the plan in the coming period.

The President of the International Publishers Association stressed the importance of adopting an approach based on solidarity, solidarity and cooperation to confront common sectoral challenges, which include the supply chain crisis, the spread of the new mutant of the "Corona" virus "Omicron", and others.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi visited the historical “Angelica Library”, one of the most important and oldest public libraries in the Italian capital, Rome, which was established in the early 17th century in 1604, and houses more than 200,000 books and manuscripts in literature, theater and Italian literary criticism, among others. Historical, religious, reference and encyclopedic books, in addition to rare manuscripts.
