“I accepted Saule Omarova’s request to withdraw her candidacy for the post of head of the foreign exchange control department,” reads a statement posted on the White House website.

According to Biden, Omarova "made the American dream come true" by immigrating to the United States from the Soviet Union.

She worked in the United States Treasury Department during the presidency of George W. Bush and, as the current American leader noted, Omarova has extensive experience in financial regulation.

According to RIA Novosti, at the hearings in the Senate, the native of the USSR was sharply criticized because of her origin.

Republican Senator John F. Kennedy asked if she should be called a professor or "comrade."
