China News Agency, Jakarta, December 6 (Reporter Lin Yongchuan) According to a report from the Indonesian National Disaster Relief Agency on the 6th, the number of people killed in the eruption of Mount Semeru in East Java Province has risen to 15, and 27 people are still missing.

Search and rescue personnel are trying their best to search for the missing person.

Indonesia’s official Antara News Agency quoted the country’s Disaster Relief Agency official Muhari’s report that night that more than 5,200 people were directly affected by the volcanic eruption, of which more than 1,700 villagers were evacuated to 19 shelters.

Muhari said that in the two counties (cities) of Malang and Lumajang, where the Semeru volcano is located, a total of 2,970 houses, 38 schools and a bridge were destroyed in the eruption.

Following a violent eruption on the afternoon of the 4th, Semeru volcano experienced two small-scale eruptions on the morning of the 6th. The continuous eruption of volcanic ash caused the search and rescue work to be suspended.

Due to the destruction of roads and bridges, it is difficult for heavy machinery to reach the scene. Search and rescue personnel can only use light tools such as shovels or even bare hands to search for missing persons in houses covered by thick volcanic ash.

In severe weather with heavy winds and heavy rains, search and rescue work is very difficult.

At 15:00 local time on the 4th, the Semeru volcano in East Java, Indonesia, erupted violently during heavy rain. The volcanic ash rain and lava caused severe damage to more than 10 nearby villages.
