- There was a lot of trouble with the cranes on this boat, it was an 8-10 days longer loading time than usual, says Olov Eriksson, operations manager at Orrskär harbor.

The extinguishing work of the bulk carrier is still ongoing after two days out in the Gothenburg archipelago.

SVT can reveal that the ship had failed during an inspection very recently on several points, including fire safety.

And the image of a ship in poor condition is reinforced when SVT Nyheter Väst talks to the operations manager at Orrskär harbor, the harbor that thus loaded on board all the timber that the ship has with it and where large parts have now burned.

- It belongs to one of the ships that took the longest time to load due to the cranes not working as they should.

We even had two technicians from Germany who stayed for a whole week to fix the errors, says Olov Eriksson.

On the way to Alexandria

The operations manager says that they only have a cargo of this size about six times a year in Orrskär harbor and that the value of the loaded timber amounts to around one hundred million kronor.

- These are huge sums.

But two thirds of the cargo is in the room under the deck, so if you can save it, it's very worth it.

Almirante Storni was on his way to Alexandria in Egypt when it caught fire about 4 nautical miles south of Vinga in the Gothenburg archipelago.

SVT Nyheter Väst has contacted the shipping company NSC Holding in Germany for a comment on the ship's condition, but has not returned with an answer.
