U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar said on Sunday that she trusts House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to take "decisive action" against Republican Representative Lauren Poubert, after she spoke about her, which was considered Islam intimidation.
During an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" program, Ilhan Omar said that Pelosi "promised to me that she would take care of that, and I believe her."
Ilhan - who is one of 3 Muslim members of Congress - added that she wanted Poubert to be stripped of her duties in a congressional committee, due to the incident that took place at a local council event in Colorado last month, during which Poubert described Ilhan as a member of a "jihadist group". And it might be a terrorist.
As Ilhan said, "I think it is important for us to say that this kind of language, this kind of hate, cannot be condoned by Parliament."

During the interview, Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar called Republican House minority leader Kevin McCarthy a "liar and coward" for not publicly condemning Poebert's comments.
Commenting on the death threats that Ilhan receives from racist people, she said that there are countless threats, which cause her and her team a lot of fear, considering that this spreads fear in the whole community.

Rep.
Ilhan Omar (D-MN): "Too many to count. And there is a general fear that I have, my staff has and the community at large has."

Poubert had previously said - in the videotaped statements - that there is no fear of riding an elevator in Congress with Ilhan if she is not carrying a backpack.
After the recording was leaked and spread in the media, a phone call took place between the two, which ended in disagreement, when Weibert did not show any remorse and refused to apologize, as Ilhan said that her fellow deputy had hung up the phone during their conversation.
Subsequently, House Democrats demanded that Poubert be relieved of her duties on House committees, for what they described as anti-Islam bigotry.
Late last month, Poubert apologized on her Twitter account, "to anyone in the Muslim community who has been offended by my statements."
In a press conference held by Muslim representatives in Congress, Ilhan Omar said that it is not possible to pretend that hate speech from senior politicians is devoid of real consequences, stressing that hatred against Muslims is on the rise, whether in the United States or in the world.
