“On the night of December 3–4, a Russian-flagged vessel on its way from Klaipeda to the Northern Port of Gdansk left the designated fairway and did not answer calls from the VTS Zatoka service, which continuously monitors the movement of vessels.

The vessel also did not answer the calls of the captain of the port of Gdansk, ”the department said in a statement.

It is noted that the maritime border detachment was informed about the situation and was asked to urgently intervene "due to the high likelihood of a threat in sea traffic and the risk of the vessel running aground in the area of Sobeshevsky Island."

"In addition, a subdivision of the maritime search and rescue service was sent to the scene," the maritime department said.

It is clarified that later it was established that three crew members, including the captain of the dry cargo ship, were in a state of alcoholic intoxication.

The vessel is currently anchored.

Earlier it became known that the Russian dry cargo ship Ruslana was detained in Poland.

Later, the Russian Trade Union of Seamen spoke about the situation with the detention of the ship.
