When homeless people are invited by the Bernd Reisig Foundation to eat roast goose on December 8th, only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered will be admitted to the Ratskeller.

The annual “Christmas goose meal for the homeless” is a 2-G event this winter.

Only in the courtyard in front of the Ratskeller will there be tables under patio heaters for those who have only been tested.

But how should the 500 expected visitors be checked?

Do the homeless all have proof of vaccination?

Are there so many who have already been vaccinated?

Yes, says organizer Bernd Reisig: "I assume around 350 people who have been completely vaccinated." This is made possible by his meticulous planning.

“We counted back from December 8th,” he says.

"When does the first vaccination have to be in the arm so that one is vaccinated for the festive meal?"

Moses Pelham as a partner

So it came to October 28th. So on that day, Reisig and musician Moses Pelham invited them to a vegan meal in the Ratskeller, including free vaccinations. 250 homeless people came, 138 of them were already fully vaccinated. “That surprised me,” says Reisig. Like the festival on December 8th, this campaign was supported by numerous helpers. The Kuli Alma restaurant in Frankfurt donated the meals. In the end, 40 people were vaccinated that day. “That was a real success, but nothing compared to the second campaign,” he says.

Four weeks later, on November 23rd, he and Lars Obendorfer set up his “Best worscht in town” food truck in the Römerhöfchen and distributed currywurst to those in need free of charge.

Also included here: a vaccination offer.

On that day alone, 147 people were given the second protective syringe in their arms.

"We received great praise from the health department," says Reisig.

The question of how the vaccination status of the homeless on December 8th should be checked is also unproblematic for him: "Everyone has a vaccination certificate with them, some even digitally," says Reisig.

Around 95 percent could also show an identity card for the vaccination certificate.

"So these will be completely normal 2-G controls."
