05 December 2021 In Germany, the Liberals also give the green light to the government agreement. After the approval by a very large majority by the SPD, the FDP also gave its assent to the agreement with 535 votes in favor, 37 against and 8 abstentions, for a consensus percentage of 92.24 percent.

"This is a coalition agreement for centrist politics, which will not move our country to the left but wants to carry it forward," said the leader of the Liberals of the FDP, Christian Lindner at the party convention, held in virtual form, which gave the green light to the agreement with the Spd and the Greens for the formation of a new government in Germany, after the general elections of 26 September. Lindner is set to become the new finance minister. The party will also get the ministries of Transport, Justice and Education.

The German Liberals will rule together with Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats and the Greens. The agreement has already been approved by the SPD, while the Greens are currently consulting their members.

Thus, Olaf Scholz is ever closer to the Chancellery.

If there are no last-minute surprises, he will take up the post of Chancellor next week.

The green light from the Greens is the last step to be overcome before Chancellor-designate Olaf Scholz can appear in Parliament to ask for trust.

The verdict of the Greens is expected for tomorrow.

The program agreement of the so-called "Semaforo", the governing coalition formed by the Liberals with the SPD and the Greens, will take office on 8 December.
