Today, Sunday, the Amman Penal Magistrate's Court convicted 5 government officials in the case of running out of oxygen at Salt Governmental Hospital last March, which led to the death of 10 patients infected with the Corona virus.

The court sentenced the defendants to 3 years in prison, including the director general of the hospital, Abdul Razzaq al-Khashman, on charges of causing death, while the court acquitted 8 other defendants.

The verdict issued against the accused is subject to appeal before the regular courts in the Kingdom.

Amman's Public Prosecutor, Hassan al-Abd al-Lat, closed the investigation into the incident on March 21, after the arrest of 13 defendants, and trial sessions began before the Amman Penal Court of Justice.

The incident sparked a state of popular anger, as protest marches took place in many governorates and cities of the Kingdom, calling for the departure of the government and a change in the approach to managing state affairs.

The Al-Salt incident led to the dismissal of the Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, after Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh announced that the government held full responsibility for the incident.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah II visited the hospital immediately after the accident and asked its director to "immediately resign", and the king pledged to hold accountable those who were negligent in the accident.
