The Frankfurt Greens elected Götz von Stumpfeldt as the new chairman of their party this Saturday.

The 56-year-old political scientist received 84 of 163 votes.

He was elected with almost 52 percent of the vote and from now on, together with Julia Frank, forms the spokesperson for the Greens in Frankfurt.

Klaus Lengefeld, who had also applied for the post of party spokesman, received only 62 or 38 percent of the vote.

Eight members voted no and nine abstained.

The election for the second speaker post had become necessary after Daniel Frank, elected in June, who happened to have the same family name as spokeswoman Julia Frank, suddenly resigned at the beginning of October.

In an intoxicated state he had behaved “across borders” towards party members at a party on the evening of the Bundestag election, which was very successful for the Frankfurt Greens.

On this occasion, the Frankfurt Greens began to work out a sexism statute.

Active in the Ministry of the Environment in Mainz

In the person of Stumpfeldt, the Greens have chosen a relative newcomer to Frankfurt. Stumpfeldt has only lived in Sachsenhausen for two and a half years, but he has had a longer voluntary and full-time party career behind him. Most recently he worked in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Environment. He currently works for the German Society for International Cooperation.

Stumpfeldt praised the coalition agreement negotiated in Frankfurt between the Greens, SPD, FDP and Volt as well as the “strong and colorful faction” that the Greens give in the Römer.

But the goals named in the coalition agreement “we as a party must also implement”, says Stumpfeldt in his application speech.

“It won't be a walk in the park”, instead he expects “hard social disputes”.

The close cooperation between the party executive, district groups and local councils, as Julia Frank has already initiated, is all the more important.

When asked about his "affair of the heart", Stumpfeldt announced that he would campaign for "clear monitoring" in order to make the results of the climate protection targets on emissions transparent.

And after the election he added: "I want to be a good chairman for you."

Nouripour sees "historical"

Previously, Member of the Bundestag, Omid Nouripour, reported on the negotiations for the coalition agreement in Berlin and sought approval from the members.

The contract contained a lot of "great and historical", said Nouripour.

He pointed out that an arms control law had been agreed for the first time.

But he also knows that, especially when it comes to traffic, more is necessary than agreed to in order to achieve the 1.5-degree climate target.

It is now the task of the Greens transport politicians in the parliamentary group to “hold hard against it” if the FDP should not keep to appointments.

The fact that the designated Transport Minister Volker Wissing spoke out in favor of the interests of motorists immediately after his nomination by the FDP was “a foul”.

The Greens Group will in future pay attention and react to such behavior every time.

As a coalition you have to try to find compromises that represent an acceptable solution for everyone and "sell" this so that trust can arise.

"That is the basis for the cooperation over the next four years."
