Six people were indicted in Rennes for having committed nearly 400 thefts of portable power tools (jigsaws, drills, screwdrivers, sanders, etc.), stolen from artisan vans in 25 French departments, announced on Saturday the public prosecutor of Rennes.

The suspects, aged 19 to 25, were indicted for "criminal association with a view to preparing one or more offenses punishable by ten years' imprisonment, theft in an organized gang, concealment in an organized gang and money laundering. ", Said prosecutor Philippe Astruc in a press release.

Three of them were remanded in custody, the other three under judicial supervision.

"Judicial information has updated the organization of a structured network operating from Seine-Saint-Denis and the existence of a concealment sector favoring a rapid flow at the local level", specifies the press release .

A national survey

The facts occurred between January and November 2021. In January, the prosecutor's office of the interregional jurisdiction of Rennes (Jirs) had opened a judicial investigation of the heads of "organized gang theft, concealment of organized gang theft, money laundering and association of criminals with a view to preparing an offense punishable by more than ten years' imprisonment ”.

To carry out the investigations, a national investigation unit bringing together the central office for the fight against itinerant delinquency (OCLDI), the departmental gendarmerie group of Vendée and the research section of Clermont-Ferrand was set up.

A judicial operation was carried out from November 30 to December 3, 2021 by an investigating judge from the Jirs de Rennes in Seine-Saint-Denis and Clermont-Ferrand.

This operation made it possible to discover "several batches of tools in dedicated storage places in the Clermont region", specifies the parquet floor.
