Mexico rescues 210 migrants it found crammed into a truck

Mexican authorities have rescued 210 migrants, who were found stacked in a truck, in the southeast of the country.

The National Guard and Immigration Department said in a statement on Friday that its officers found the foreigners in a truck trailer at a checkpoint near Esperanza, in the southeastern state of Puebla.

The statement added that the truck was searched, after it had not stopped near the municipality of Tecamachalco, about 150 kilometers southeast of Mexico City, on Friday morning.

The administration added that its officers opened the door of the trailer, after hearing blows and screams coming from inside, and found adults and children among metal scaffolding, blankets and air conditioning units.

The statement added that the driver of the truck and the vehicle has been placed at the disposal of the prosecution, adding that charges of human smuggling may be brought.

It is reported that two weeks ago, Mexican authorities found 600 migrants, in trailers, of two semi-trailers in the state of Veracruz.
