Conservative lawmakers from the LDP have decided to demand a 'diplomatic boycott' from the Japanese government that does not interfere with the participation of the athletes at the Beijing Olympics next February but withholds the dispatch of the government delegation, Asahi Shimbun reported.

A group of LDP lawmakers, the 'Group for Protecting Japan's Dignity and National Interest', said that if Japan sends a diplomatic mission to the Beijing Olympics, it is tolerating the oppression of human rights in Xinjiang and Hong Kong and sending the wrong message to the international community.

They plan to formally express their views to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi in the near future.
