At the microphone of "Bienfait pour vous" on Europe 1, the sexologist Magali Croset-Calisto explains that the coronavirus and the confinements have had a deleterious effect on the sexuality of the French, to the point of lowering the "procreation rate" of the country.

INTERVIEW

For two years, the arrival of the Covid-19 has shaken up many habits among the French.

An upheaval that has affected many activities: bars, restaurants, cinemas ... no longer a question of going to a place that welcomes the public without showing a health pass.

And for those who do not have the precious sesame, abstention is required.

But the coronavirus and the confinements it brought in its wake have also changed certain habits in the private sphere, including in the bedroom.

Less sex ...

"The confinement did not boost the libido, on the contrary", summarizes in "Bienfait pour vous" on Europe 1, Magali Croset-Calisto, sexologist and addictologist.

"In my office, but also in all the recent studies that have been carried out on these two years of the pandemic, we see that there has been significantly less sexual intercourse than in previous years."

A trend which also follows that of the different waves of the pandemic that have followed one another.

"There was a resurgence of sexuality in November and December 2020," she confirms.

... and a lower reproduction rate

And mechanically, this decrease in sexual activity is felt on the birth rate.

"In terms of procreation, we have returned to a rate equal to that of the 1940s, the war years. It had never been seen in our societies. Couples preferred to postpone births."

But the various confinements have also modified the sexuality of the French in itself, with the development of sexuality through interposed screens.
