  • Justice First complaint against the Catalan Minister of Education for giving "abusive instructions" not to apply the sentence of 25% of Spanish

The Generalitat intends to deepen the linguistic indoctrination of new and future teachers to ensure that they strictly apply immersion, even after the Supreme Court ruling that requires 25% of subjects to be taught in Spanish and that the Government has already ordered disobeying .

The Department of Education of the Generalitat is putting pressure on the directors of the educational centers to instill in the new teachers the monolingual educational model that prevails in Catalonia.

«You have a key role in the teaching staff who are new to the centers. Just like when a teacher joins up and we explain our educational project to him, we need that to happen with the linguistic situation. That when a teacher joins a center he knows what the linguistic situation of that center is. Here we include all the teaching staff for pre-school, primary and secondary school practices ”, the Secretary for Educational Transformation of the Government,

Núria Mora

, transferred

to the more than 3,000 directors who had been summoned to a telematic meeting to explain the new Plan for the promotion of Catalan language in schools, the project that the Government is implementing after detecting an alleged increase in the use of Spanish in schools in Catalonia.

At the meeting -whose content EL MUNDO has been revealing for days-, the Government also announces that it is extending its linguistic doctrine to universities, to influence the training of new teachers from the moment they complete their degree.

“We are working with universities so that the teachers who are training both in the master's degree in secondary school, as well as in the infant and primary grades, have the certainty that they have knowledge of the linguistic situation of the country.

And that, therefore, it empowers itself as a language model;

knowing that it is a model of the language and that it is a model of the Catalan language ”, confesses the high position of the Generalitat to the directors, flanked by the Minister of Education of the Generalitat,

Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray

, also present at the conclave.

In the same internal communication, the educational managers of the Generalitat also ordered the directors of the centers to monitor the use of Spanish in the classrooms through "observations"

in situ

. "If you know that there are teachers who teach in Spanish, we will provide you with the tools so that you can enter the classrooms to make observations," Mora told the directors present at the videoconference.

“It is not a decision that has to fall only on the inspection. It is a decision of the center so that you can make observations, so that you obtain data and so that, based on these data, you can make the most opportune decisions to respond to the increase in the use of Catalan, ”added the Secretary for Educational Transformation of the Generalitat. “We have to make sure what is really happening in our classrooms and, therefore, we have to have the information. And you have all the support of the Department of Education so that it is fulfilled », insisted Gonzàlez-Cambray

His collaborator also encouraged not to hire extracurricular activities or excursions in which the use of Catalan was not guaranteed.

"In all those hiring both at noon (canteen companies), as extracurricular, as leisure, as workshops that take place in the center there will be the premise of promoting the Catalan language [...] It is a country issue", defended before the directors to clarify that the objective of the Government is to cover all possible flanks in order to prevent Spanish from being used by students at school, not only in classes, but also in leisure moments and in the relationship with their peers.
