According to chief physician Fotios Papadopoulos, there is currently a lack of research on how people feel after gender-confirming treatment.

He therefore wants to investigate physical satisfaction, mental health and how patients are affected by discrimination and exposure to violence.

- It is terrible to have gender dysphoria and most patients have waited a long time to receive care.

The solution is to investigate the dysphoria and understand what the person needs.

We need to become better at identifying this and providing better support.

Significant increase

The number of people seeking care for gender dysphoria has increased in recent years, especially among the younger generation.

According to Fotios Papadopoulos, it is connected with the development of society.

- I believe that knowledge that the condition exists and that there is help to get has reached out to society.

People who feel a gender incongruity know that they are not alone, so it was not before.
