After 17 years of absence, the Swedish Customs has now re-established itself in Gävle.

And it is necessary, says the Swedish Customs' new group manager in Gävle Niklas Larsson.

- We see in the development of society that the introduction of weapons and drugs is very large, he says.

Now more customs controls will be introduced in the hunt for illegal goods.

The Port of Gävle contains Sweden's third largest container terminal, with a capacity to handle up to 600,000 containers each year.

Only a fraction of containers are searched

It takes a long time for customs staff to search an entire container, so it is completely out of the question to have time to check everyone.

Which containers are searched is not determined randomly via random sampling:

- They are selected by our intelligence department, says Niklas Larsson.
