The increase in the occupation of intensive care beds prompted a new meeting of the “concertation committee” which brings together the different levels of Belgian government (federal, regional, linguistic).

The new measures primarily affect indoor events and schools.

Most of the decisions of this Friday December 3 come into force as of this Saturday the 4th.

Belgian schoolchildren must wear a mask from the age of six, in class but also in all public places where the mask remains compulsory.

The consultation committee estimated that the rate of contamination in this age category is clearly increasing and affects parents and their contacts.

As a result, the quarantine closure will now be triggered from two positive students per class and no longer three.

Likewise, the presence of a carbon dioxide measuring device becomes compulsory for each class.

Vacation advanced by one week

Most visible measure, the holidays will be brought forward by one week for kindergarten and primary.

In Belgium, primary school runs until the age of eleven, and secondary school pupils are therefore all suitable for vaccination.

This means that Belgian primary and kindergarten schoolchildren will have three weeks of Christmas vacation, from December 18 to January 9.

From Monday, indoor events of more than 200 people will also be prohibited and from 50 people, only events where the public is seated, with mask and sanitary pass.
