Before the federal-state consultations on stricter requirements in the corona pandemic, several prime ministers called for a vigorous and uniform approach.

"The situation is serious," said Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig to the editorial network in Germany.

“We need clear and uniform rules in Germany.

This includes, for example, uniform contact restrictions, ”demanded the SPD politician.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer told the RND that the pandemic is hitting all of Germany hard.

"That is why it is important, in an act of national solidarity, to work together to ensure that the number of infections decreases and the burden on our entire health system is relieved," said the SPD politician in the newspapers.

The federal-state conversation on Tuesday would have made it clear that the fight against Corona will enjoy top priority even in times of a change of government and will continue to be pursued at full speed.

"There shouldn't be full Bundesliga stadiums anymore"

“I would like and expect uniform federal regulations for the regulation of major events and the rules for the retail trade,” she said.

"There shouldn't be any more pictures full of Bundesliga stadiums like on the weekend in the remaining Bundesliga match days".

Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) warned to take energetic steps despite the slowdown in the spread of the virus: "The number of infections has calmed down, but at a high level," he said.

Ramelow added: "Now is not the time for a political back and forth." It is rather a matter of conclusively explaining on Thursday what the heads of government want to do.

"In doing so, after the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court, the FDP must learn that we are not talking about a Freedom Day, but about tightening the measures."

The Federal Constitutional Court announced decisions on the so-called federal emergency brake on Tuesday, which expired in June.

Accordingly, school closings as well as exit and contact restrictions were permitted.

In this context, the left-wing politician praised it as "very respectable" that Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) was trying to contribute to a common political line.

"I very much agree with how Ms. Merkel is saying goodbye," he told the RND.

"That is very good."

The heads of government of the federal states, together with the incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and her designated successor Olaf Scholz (SPD), agreed on the tightening of corona measures on Tuesday.

The details of these regulations should be worked out by Thursday in order to then come to joint decisions.

The proposals discussed by the Bund-Länder-Round include the introduction of extensive contact restrictions, especially for unvaccinated people, including at private get-togethers, the expansion of the 2-G rules to the retail trade and restrictions at major events.

In addition to facility-related vaccination requirements, a timely decision on general vaccination requirements should also be prepared.

The Robert Koch Institute reported 73,209 new infections within one day on Thursday - a little less than a week ago.

The number of deaths increased compared to the previous week, however.

According to the new information, 388 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.
