Emmanuel Macron and EU leaders are expected at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Thursday, one year to the day after the death of former President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, to celebrate the memory of this "great European".
Less than a month from the start of the French presidency of the Council of the EU, Emmanuel Macron, who will be accompanied by his wife, will also take advantage of this visit to meet, at the end of the ceremony, the leaders of the political groups of the European Parliament, in order to discuss its priorities for this semester of the rotating presidency.
The center and Europe
Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron are indeed going to Strasbourg Thursday morning for a tribute ceremony which will bring together several heads of state, the presidents of the European institutions, as well as several French and European personalities who have worked alongside Valéry Giscard d 'Estaing.
After Joséphine Baker on Tuesday, it is therefore a new ceremony which is still very political for Emmanuel Macron, one month away from the French presidency of the EU and five months from the presidential election.

And it is once again by relying on a figure from the past that Emmanuel Macron is preparing his future.
Because Valéry Giscard d'Estaing represents a cursor placed at the center of the chessboard and a pro-European political vision: the center and Europe, that is to say two major axes of the tenant of the Elysée.
Parasit the right
This tribute ceremony is in a way the occasion for the Head of State to lay down the guidelines for the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will begin in a month.
Moreover, Emmanuel Macron will meet on Thursday afternoon with the President of the European Parliament.

But it is also the occasion to send a signal to the voters of the center-right, or in any case to try to capture the interest of the most nostalgic of the former boss of the UDF.
This, while at the same time or almost will be unveiled the result of the first round of the primary of the Republicans.
For the president not yet a candidate, coincidence of the calendar or not, it is still a good day to parasitize the right.
