The spread of covid-19 is increasing in Sweden and the Swedish Public Health Agency warns that they may soon be forced to introduce stricter restrictions to stop the infection.

There are still relatively few people who become so ill that they need intensive care.

According to the latest statistics, there are a total of 43 people.

The risk of becoming seriously ill is absolutely greatest for the unvaccinated - at the same time, more and more of those who become seriously ill are fully vaccinated, according to statistics from the Swedish Intensive Care Register.

- Among the vaccinated, it is mainly fragile elderly who are in need of care.

Vaccination is the best way to protect against serious illness and death, says Mattias Fredricson, unit manager at the National Board of Health and Welfare at Tuesday's press conference.

Increase in fully vaccinated

In August, 8 percent of all covid patients were fully vaccinated.

In September, it increased to 23 percent.

In October, 31 percent were fully vaccinated and in November, as many as 40 percent of all covid patients at IVA received both syringes with vaccine.

- We will see that some, despite having been vaccinated, still become so ill that they end up at IVA, says Johnny Hillgren to SVT News.

If you look at the age group 60 years and older, the fully vaccinated have increased sharply at IVA and are now in the clear majority.

As many as 64 percent of all people over the age of 60 who are cared for at IVA are fully vaccinated.

According to Hillgren, it is important to continue vaccination protection, especially for the groups at risk of becoming the most seriously ill and that we focus on the increased spread of infection.

- I think we need to act quickly to be able to reduce the spread of infection and reduce the consequences of them, he says to SVT News.
