The man had returned from Africa with a stopover first in Holland and then in Fiumicino and it is suspected that he may have been infected with the new variant of the virus.

Security measures are immediate: all 130 passengers have been quarantined and tomorrow morning they will perform molecular swabs to determine if infected by Covid.

Both the positive passenger and all other travelers do not have any symptoms of the disease so far. 



Footballers and sports managers are also on board


Among the people traveling on the Rome Fiumicino-Alghero flight there were also footballers, managers and technicians of Torres Sassari returning from the trip to Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in Campania, where they had played the Serie D championship match. the quarantine has started and the next championship matches could be skipped. 



If positive: tracking of close contacts


If other positive cases are registered among the 130 passengers, the tracking will immediately start, also for the close contacts of each infected person: precautionary measures as required by the ordinance of 26 November by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, who provides for "special supervisory measures for 8 African states considered at risk for the omicron variant".



The confirmation of Omicron only in a week


The sequencing of the virus found on the passenger arriving from Africa has already begun In the Microbiology and Virology laboratory of Sassari, and in the first days of next week it should be known if it is the Omicron variant .

From a first rapid analysis, the health professionals have ascertained that "we are not facing the original strain of Sars Cov 2", this has alarmed the authorities who have followed the protocol as per ordinance.



After the first test scheduled for tomorrow, all 130 passengers - even if negative - will have to perform a second swab in ten days, at the end of the quarantine period.
