“It was established that Umakhanov, as part of a united armed gang under the general leadership of Basayev and Khattab, numbering about 2,000 people, in September 1999, from the territory of the Chechen Republic, carried out an armed attack on residents and organizations of the Novolaksky district of the Republic of Dagestan,” the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement.

It is clarified that Umakhanov took part in the shelling of the building of the Novolaksky District Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Republic of Dagestan.

The court found Umakhanov guilty of committing all the incriminated crimes. 

On October 14, the Center for Public Relations (DSP) of the FSB of Russia reported that 14 people involved in financing the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham * were detained in seven regions of Russia.

* “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” (“Jabhat Fath al-Sham”, “Front al-Nusra”, “Jabhat al-Nusra”) - the organization was recognized as terrorist by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated December 29, 2014.
