Actors have launched a campaign to change the perception in India that breastfeeding in public is taboo.

On the 28th local time, Hong Kong media South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that famous Indian actors are releasing pictures one after another of breastfeeding their babies.

Actor Neha Dufia, who led the campaign, said, "I had to be criticized for breastfeeding my baby in the park."

In addition, Dufia said, "It is sad that this is happening in India, where half of the population is women. We plan to continue this kind of campaign in the future."

Due to the active campaign activities of the actors, many women on social media post pictures of breastfeeding their children with the hashtag '#freedomtofeed' to add strength.

India isn't the only one who has a conservative view of breastfeeding in public.

In Bordeaux, France, in May, a woman named Mileys was assaulted while queuing on the side of the road to collect parcels at the post office, for breastfeeding her hungry six-month-old son.

At that time, a hashtag campaign was held in France called 'Support #Miles'.

Also in March, a video of a British baby product brand's breastfeeding campaign was removed from Facebook because it was "sexually suggestive."

In response, the advertiser explained that the video contained the process of breastfeeding realistically with the purpose of conveying the hard work of parenting realistically, but said that they received a reply from Facebook that they did not allow videos that showed women's breasts.

An official from the advertisement also criticized Facebook's decision as "an insult to women" and "It is breastfeeding that we should pay attention to, not women's bodies."

Ranjana Kumari, director of the New Delhi Center for Social Research and a women's rights activist, said, "Indian men urinate on the street at any time, but this kind of behavior is not condemned. He pointed out that we need to get rid of the crooked view of women who are naturally lactating.

This is a 'news pick'.
