Christmas, the bishops applaud the EU's turnaround: "There is no inclusion without identity"

01 December 2021 The approval of the Italian Bishops' Conference arrives - through the director of the Social Communications Office, Vincenzo Corrado - after the reversal of the European Commission on the introduction of guidelines on language that aimed at inclusive communication (the #UnionOfEquality) but which have instead unleashed the protests of those who felt "censored" in the expression of their own culture and traditions, including religious ones. According to the Italian Episcopal Conference, inclusion is achieved "certainly by not denying oneself, one's identity and one's culture". 

"Inclusion" - thus the CEI - "comes from living memory that is continually renewed in people. This is the beauty and richness of encounters open to knowledge and not to exclusion".

In the guide produced by the EU Commission "for inclusive communication", Union citizens were invited to use the word "festivity" - instead of "Christmas" - and to avoid Christian names such as Maria and Giovanni: this - in the intentions of the guidelines - in order not to offend the religious beliefs of other confessions.
