- Considering that more and more cases of this variant are found both in the outside world and in other parts of Sweden, it was not unexpected that cases would appear here as well, says Malin Bengnér, infection control doctor in the Jönköping County Region.

The person has mild symptoms and has not needed hospitalization.

According to the region, there are more cases from Jönköping County and other counties that are being analyzed for omikron right now.

Since last Friday, all travelers who have returned home from southern Africa are recommended to be tested for covid-19 on arrival and after another five days, a new test should be done.

- At present, we suspect that the virus variant omicron is more contagious, but there is no indication that it causes more serious disease than the delta variant, which is the dominant one right now.

Vaccinating yourself with at least two doses is still the best way to protect yourself and others from infection, says Malin Bengnér.
