As Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said yesterday during a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordination Council for Combating the Spread of Coronavirus Infection, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation there is a stabilization of the situation, "but in general it is impossible to relax."

“It is imperative to take precautions.

All sanitary and epidemiological requirements must be met in full, "the head of the Cabinet of Ministers explained.

The healthcare system of the Russian Federation has learned to respond quickly to all waves of the pandemic, noted Denis Protsenko, the head physician of hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka.

“In fact, many regions in recent waves have not changed their plans for medical care, planned, surgical as well.

Nevertheless, there are a number of problems with oxygen, so we separately turned to the regions to hear what is happening with the drug provision of patients with covid who are on outpatient treatment, "he said at a meeting of the United Russia health commission.

The situation with the omicron strain

The representative of the World Health Organization in Russia Melita Vujnovich, in a conversation with RT, explained why the expert community was concerned about the omicron strain.

“This variant has multiple new mutations in the spike S protein.

This is, in fact, the very "needle" with which the virus enters the cells and causes infection, ensuring further spread of the infection.

And since there are many more (such mutations) here than in other variants, this immediately caused concern.

So we have scientific data, but we do not have epidemiological data that would tell us at the moment that this is a more deadly virus, ”she said.

According to her, it is still known that the disease with the omicron strain in young people is milder.

“At the moment we have no reports that it causes the disease in a more serious form or that it is more fatal.

I don't think we need to speculate on this.

Here, of course, a little more time is needed.

And so we said that there is no need to panic, you need to be prepared, be on your guard and take action, ”said Vujnovic.

On November 26, WHO included the omicron strain in the group of “variants of concern,” and on November 29, the organization warned of the high risk of the global spread of this coronavirus mutation.

The day before, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin pointed out that the Russian authorities, against the background of the spread of a new coronavirus mutation in the world, have limited air traffic and entry for foreign citizens from a number of countries: "This is necessary to minimize the risk of a new strain entering."

The chief sanitary doctor of the Russian Federation, Anna Popova, also stressed that no cases of the disease with the omicron strain in the country have yet been identified.

In addition, she appealed to the Russians, urging them to be as attentive as possible to their health and refuse to travel abroad.

“New Year's holidays are just around the corner, and many citizens are planning trips, planning holidays on New Year's holidays, including abroad.

But today it is obvious that it is better to hold them at home, ”Popova said.

At the same time, Rospotrebnadzor, due to the peculiarities of the omicron, decided to limit the validity of the PCR test not to 72, but to 48 hours.

In addition, the department's Central Research Institute of Epidemiology has developed a test system that will determine the belonging of a coronavirus sample to a new strain.
