) ideologues who ignore the dangerous new geopolitical reality that is emerging from the astounding buildup of China's nuclear and conventional military capabilities, as well as the ongoing modernization of Russia's nuclear arsenals and its increasingly aggressive position in Europe, ”the letter says.

Congressmen said the US nuclear policy should focus on "an impartial and objective assessment of the facts."

The authors of the letter called on the leadership of the departments to make sure that the new document takes into account the "increasingly dangerous strategic situation" and the views of American allies.

In addition, attention should be paid to the deterioration of the state of the US nuclear forces in comparison with the modernization efforts undertaken by Moscow and Beijing, they stressed.

The letter also expresses the view that the United States and its allies are facing the largest geopolitical shift since the end of the Cold War, making the current Nuclear Posture Review possibly the most significant ever undertaken.
