The infected person has recently returned from a trip to South Africa and took his test a week ago.

- The person is traced to infection according to normal routines and as far as we know at present there are no other suspected cases around this person, says Birgitta Holmgren, assistant infection control doctor.

More suspected cases

The infected person is not very isolated but is treated as "ordinary" corona infected.

At the moment, there are no more cases of infection, but there are more suspected cases.

- The samples are being analyzed but we have no new confirmed cases, says Birgitta Holmgren.

How worried do the people of Skåne need to be about the new variant?

- I do not think you need to be worried but you should have respect for this, because we do not know much about this variant yet, says Birgitta Holmgren.

She believes that the most important thing is that everyone goes and gets vaccinated and that you keep in mind that the infection is on the rise and still remains in society so that you think about it in your everyday life.
