In the future, the federal police will increasingly take action against gun carriers at Frankfurt main train station and at the S-Bahn stations. As the responsible Federal Police Directorate in Koblenz announced, a ban will initially be issued for the weekend from 3 to 5 December inclusive, which forbids the carrying of firearms, cutting and flapping weapons of all kinds, as well as knives and sharp objects with a blade length of more than six centimeters . The ban applies in the evening and at night from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the following day. The aim is to "increase the safety of travelers," as a spokesman says.

In addition to the entire main station in Frankfurt, the Konstablerwache and Hauptwache stations are affected by this ban, as are all S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines between these two central transport hubs.

The prohibition does not apply to persons who have to carry dangerous objects with them in order to exercise their profession, such as police officers or craftsmen. Normally, with the possession of the small gun license, the carrying of alarm pistols or knives with a blade length of more than six centimeters is allowed, according to the spokesman.

The background to this regulation is reportedly the increase in crimes with such weapons on the weekends at the stations mentioned.

In May, for example, the police recorded dangerous bodily harm with a knife at the main train station.

In October, a man had stabbed a traveler on a platform at Frankfurt Central Station.

Police are investigating attempted homicide.

The police also found more people with alarm pistols at the main train station.
