"The board of directors of Inditex, on the initiative of its chairman Pablo Isla and its founder Amancio Ortega (...) approved the appointment of Marta Ortega Pérez as chairman of the group," said the press release.

Marta Ortega will replace Pablo Isla, who was appointed President of Inditex in 2011 by Amancio Ortega in this post.

The assumption of office of Marta Ortega will be effective "from April 1, 2022", specifies the company.

In parallel, the board of directors has appointed Oscar García Maceiras, until now secretary general of the textile giant, as CEO of the company.

This appointment has "immediate effect", underlines the press release.

Marta Ortega, born January 10, 1984 from the union between Amancio Ortega and his second wife Flora Perez, has appeared regularly in recent years alongside the founder of Inditex, where she has held several positions since 2007.

"I will always be where the company needs me," she said in a rare interview with the Wall Street Journal in August 2021, which had given rise to speculation about her future within the group.

"I have been living this business since my childhood and I have learned from all the great professionals with whom I have worked over the past 15 years", underlines Marta Ortega in the press release published on Tuesday.

"I have always said that I would devote my life to developing the legacy of my parents, looking to the future but learning the lessons of the past and in the service of the company, our shareholders and our customers", adds- she does.

Inditex, which brings together eight ready-to-wear brands, including Zara, Stradivarius, Bershka and Massimo Dutti, is the world's leading budget fashion group, ahead of Swedish H&M.

Present on five continents, it has more than 6,500 shops located in the most busy shopping avenues.
