China News Service, November 29. Recently, the new coronavirus "Omi Keron" mutant strain has attracted global attention.

According to a report by Radio Korea International on the 29th, the South Korean government has issued an entry ban on foreigners departing from South Africa and other eight countries, and will promptly adjust the list of restricted entry countries based on the spread of this variant.

At the same time, South Korea will also develop the "Omi Keron" mutant strain detection method to detect this strain as soon as possible.

According to reports, in response to the "Omi Keron" variant of the new crown virus, the South Korean government has decided to ban all foreigners from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and other eight countries in southern Africa from entering.

South Korean citizens departing from these eight countries, regardless of whether they have received the new crown vaccine, need to be quarantined in temporary living facilities for 10 days.

According to the report, as the number of countries with "Omi Keron" variants increases, the South Korean government will gradually expand the list of countries that restrict entry after determining the risk and spread of "Omi Keron".

The report quoted experts as saying that the next two to three weeks will be the key to whether the mutant will spread to the world or disappear.

As far as the current situation is concerned, strengthening vigilance is the best policy.

On the other hand, the Korean epidemic prevention department decided to develop a PCR detection method that can detect "Omi Keron", and the existing detection reagents can only detect 4 mutant strains such as "Delta".

After the promotion of the "Omi Keron" detection method, the original 3 to 5 days for the detection of mutant strains will be shortened to 1 day.

As previously reported, recently, Botswana, South Africa and many other countries reported a new variant of the new coronavirus. The unusual mutation of this strain has attracted the attention of many scientific researchers.

The World Health Organization named it the "Omi Keron" variant. It is still unclear whether this strain can cause more serious diseases.
