The gendarmes arrested this Thursday in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) four people in their twenties suspected of fraud.

The two women and the two men were in the parking lot of an Auchan hypermarket, reports France Bleu Béarn Bigorre.

They pretended to be members of the Handicap International association doing fundraising.

The suspects mainly targeted the elderly or vulnerable to beg for cash or checks.

This practice would have saved them several hundred euros in ten days.

About ten victims

The crooks still operated in large-area car parks.

In Pau, Serres-Castet, Poey-de-Lescar, Lescar, Lons and Billère (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), they allegedly extracted money from a dozen people who each gave them between 10 and 50 euros.

They will be tried in 2022 and face up to seven years in prison.
