One of the passengers tells the newspaper that he traveled with several colleagues from Cape Town in South Africa.

They stopped in Addis Ababa before traveling on to Arlanda.

When the passengers went through the passport control, they were told that they could test themselves at the luggage belt.

But the test station was closed.

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency's new recommendations due to the virus variant omikron, travelers from seven countries in southern Africa are encouraged to test for covid-19 as soon as possible after arrival in Sweden.

Karolinska University Hospital is responsible for the tests at Arlanda and tries to adapt the opening hours for when travelers arrive.

- The opening hours and availability are reviewed on an ongoing basis and it can certainly be adjusted depending on the situation, says Henrik Kennedy, communications director at Karolinska University Hospital, to the newspaper.

He says that the recommendations for testing apply regardless of whether the test stations are open or not.

Kennedy also says that PCR tests are used at Arlanda.

- Instead of taking a test at Arlanda and getting an answer in say two days, they should isolate themselves and order a test digitally that will come to their home, he says.
