Wild boar cause great damage to land and fields through their roaring.

In recent years, they have established themselves further north and now they are also found in North Uppland, where they have also begun to migrate into communities and cause damage.

To reduce the number, the municipalities of Älvkarleby, Tierp and Östhammar want to get as many hunters as possible in the forests this weekend.

For the wild boars that are shot during these two days, the municipalities pay for the samples taken to find trichinae or cesium in the meat.

It is a cost that usually stays with the hunters.

Enough hunting

The question is whether it has any major effect on the wild boar population that the hunters focus on that particular hunt.

- It has.

Where there has been a lot of pressure on wild boar, they have decreased in number, says Lennart Jansson, hunter in Östhammar.

Gets school food

The next step in the wild boar project is that the three municipalities pay for cutting and further handling of the meat from the weekend.

The idea is that the wild boar will be lunch in the schools in Älvkarleby, Tierp and Östhammar.

“The wild boar meat is both climate-smart and locally produced, juicy with a mild taste of game.

It is a fine raw material that we want to give more people a chance to taste, ”comments Älvkarleby municipality on the initiative.
