Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the Arab Press Award honored today, Sunday, the winners. As part of its twentieth session, during a special ceremony organized by the Dubai Press Club, representative of the General Secretariat of the Award, in Al Wasl Square at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The ceremony was attended by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, President of the Dubai Press Club, Secretary General of the Arab Press Award, Diaa Rashwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Press Award, and a group of editors-in-chief of Emirati and Arab newspapers, senior writers, thinkers, opinion makers, symbols of Arab cultural work and leaders of media institutions in the region.

The Arab Press Awards were given to 20 winners from various daily and weekly newspapers, print and electronic periodicals, and media institutions, whose works found their way to the honoring platform among thousands of works that covered various arts and fields of journalistic work.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the film "The Arab Press Award" was shown, which monitored the most important events that our Arab press accompanied during the year and had an impact on the Arab media scene.

The award ceremony included the poem "Reflections" from the poems of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Contributions of media work icons

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum handed over the Media Personality of the Year award to the journalist and journalist Imad Al-Din Adib, in appreciation of his efforts in supporting the Egyptian press and enriching the Arab media scene, as he had many important contributions throughout his career full of achievements .

On this occasion, Diaa Rashwan, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Directors, congratulated all Arab journalists and press institutions that succeeded in reaching the podium of the most important press awards in the region, both in terms of spread, participation volume, or the financial value of the awards.

He stressed the keenness of all members of the Board of Directors to honor the distinguished thinkers and high-level press production, leading to their coronation in the Her Majesty's Award.

Buhumaid said: The Arab Journalism Award will continue in its new form and move to a broader stage, in accordance with the vision and follow-up of the patron of media and media professionals, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with confidence in His Highness, in the ability of the Arab media to contribute to the advancement of the region and push the march of progress in it forward towards the future. She emphasized that the award, with its confidence and appreciation, confirms today its position as one of the most prominent elements that stimulate creativity in the field of Arab journalism and media.

Diaa Rashwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, accompanied by Maitha Buhumaid, Director of the Dubai Press Club, presented the award shield to the journalist, Kamil Al-Taweel from Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, with the “Political Journalism” category award for a work titled “The Al-Zawahiri Years… What is Left of Al-Qaeda?” "

The “Investigative Journalism” category was awarded to the team of the Emirati Al Bayan newspaper, who are: Nahid Al Naqbi, Imad Abdel Hamid, Mustafa Khalifa, Noura Al Amir, Ahmed Yahya, and Mona Khalifa, for a work titled “Clinical Trials.. “Rasheta” Prevention of Modern Diseases and Epidemics.” .

The prize for the "Cultural Journalism" category was won by journalist Azmy Abdel-Wahab, from the Egyptian magazine Al-Ahram Al-Arabi, for a topic entitled "The History of Epidemics between Religion and Superstition."

In its twentieth session, the award was honored in the "economic journalism" category, journalist Kefaya Oller of The Independent Arab newspaper, for a work titled "After Corona: Capitalism is Suffering, Socialism is Impossible, and the Alternative is Under Research."

Journalist Hoda Zakaria from the Egyptian newspaper Youm Al-Sabea also won in the category of human journalism with a publication titled "The Hell of Human Trafficking".

In the journalistic dialogue category, Mohammed Yousef, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, accompanied by the director of the Dubai Press Club, handed over to journalist Hamad Al-Duraim from the Saudi newspaper Al-Jazeera in the "journalistic dialogue" category, for a work published under the title "Music Composer Dr. Heba Al-Qawas: The Next Sound of Music for Music". The world will come from the East.

In the "Sports Journalism" category, a work published under the title "The Ball of the Rich and the Ball of the Poor in the Time of Corona" by journalist Atef Abdel Wahed from the Egyptian Al-Ahram Sports magazine won.


In the "Best Press Photo" category, photographer Mohammed Asaad from the Palestinian Press Agency won for his expressive picture of a girl inspecting a destroyed classroom after the recent Israeli war on Gaza, where artillery shells were scattered everywhere.

In the "Cartooning" category, Nawaf Al-Mulla from the Bahraini newspaper Al-Bilad won, for a cartoon work that draws "electronic flies", a new term in circulation that the winner depicts in an easy, smooth and simple way.

With regard to the Arab Journalism Award “Youth Category”, which annually honors three works in support of Arab youth and encouraging them to enter the field of journalistic work, the winners were: Shehab Tarek from the Egyptian newspaper Akhbar Al-Adab, Abdullah Owais from the Masrawy website, and Ziad Al-Fifi from the newspaper Arabic Independent.

This year, the General Secretariat of the Arab Press Award received thousands of works from all over the Arab world and the world, and witnessed great competition in all its categories due to the high quality of the works whose owners aspired to take the honors podium.

Thus, the award continues its march, confirming its position as the largest forum to celebrate journalistic creativity at the level of the Arab world, both in terms of spread, volume of participation, or financial value of the awards, including the Media Personality of the Year Award and the Journalistic Column Award, which are awarded by a decision of the award’s board of directors.
