The ice rink on Stortorget in Kalmar has now come into place after a collaboration between the municipality, Kalmar City and Destination Kalmar.
The inspiration comes from New York.
- It's the ice rink and there are people around.
You go and buy yourself something good or hot to drink ... shopping in between.
What we want to access is a feeling of a wonderful urban environment, says Kalmar City's center developer Lisa Söderholm.
Better glide in rain
The skating rink gives a different feeling under your feet than if you ride on real ice.
But Annabelle Backlund thinks it is a good enough glide, which got even better when it started to drizzle.
- Now it got a little slippery when the ice got wet, she says.

Lisa Söderholm explains that it is a child-friendly skating rink as the art is softer than the natural ice.
- If you as an adult want to ride properly, you need to have really sharp skates, she says.
