The firefighters intervened in the night from Friday to Saturday for the start of a fire in the presbytery of a church in Portel, in Pas-de-Calais, and a person was arrested and placed in police custody, a- we learned from the emergency services and a source close to the case.
Shortly after midnight, "the firefighters intervened for a smoke coming out of the presbytery" of the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul church, indicated the SDIS.
"The rapid intervention of the firefighters and the actions carried out upon their arrival" made it possible "to limit the fire to a single room of the adjacent building", added the firefighters.
Nineteen firefighters were mobilized on this fire and "no casualties are to be deplored".
A source familiar with the matter claims that an individual was arrested "in flagrante delicto" by the police while "trying to start" the fire.
This person was "placed in custody", specified this source, underlining "a certain number of fires in recent weeks in churches of Boulonnais".
