In Japan, a new type of crime that steals masks worn by women is on the rise.

According to the Asahi TV report on the 16th local time, an unidentified man stole a woman's mask while walking in the Tenjin underground shopping center in central Fukuoka, Japan.

The suspect was identified as not aiming at the bag or in kind, but only the woman's 'mask'.

With the importance of wearing a mask indoors and outdoors due to COVID-19, a new crime targeting this has occurred.

The suspect, presumed to be a male in his 20s, about 170 cm tall, wandered among the crowd, quietly followed the victim, pulled the mask strap in an instant, cut it, and stole it.

It is known that the suspect's actions were captured by a closed circuit camera (CCTV) installed nearby.

The local police said, "We are pursuing the suspect, but have not yet been arrested. There have been many similar incidents this month, so we urge women to be careful."

Japanese women who heard the news complained of anxiety, saying, "It's an unpleasant crime" and "It's an act that people I know don't want to do."

Meanwhile, Japanese netizens also speculated that "the culprit must be an abnormal sex drive."

In Japan, 'bizarre' crimes such as stealing women's underwear and shoes are often occurring. In April, a man in his 30s in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, was caught by the police for stealing only women's shoes.

This is a 'news pick'.
