For fear of new riots, an emergency ordinance will apply in three Limburg municipalities this weekend.

The mayors of Sittard-Geleen, Stein and Beek try to prevent riots in this way.

The measure was taken after messages on social media calling for riots in Geleen, and following last weekend's riots in Stein.

The emergency ordinances apply from Friday 12:00 pm to Monday 8:00 am.

Thanks to the emergency ordinance, the police can act immediately in the event of unrest.

"The regulation means that in all three municipalities no one is allowed to cover his or her face completely, that no one is allowed to gather together and that there is a ban on fireworks and objects that can be used as weapons. It will also be possible for the police to preventively to search," the mayors wrote in a statement Friday morning.

"As the municipalities of Sittard-Geleen, Beek and Stein, we do not allow violence - in particular against our aid workers - and vandalism to the property of entrepreneurs and residents. We draw a clear line there. As municipalities, we therefore take precautionary measures in the event of unrest. to restrict rioters in their freedom of movement and to be able to tackle them," said the mayors.

Last Friday, a corona protest in Rotterdam resulted in a battle.

It turned out to be the start of riots in several cities, including Stein.
