25-N International day against gender violence: "If I had not been a mother, I could be dead"
The
Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence
of
the General Council of the Judiciary
(CGPJ) has prepared a study analyzing the hundred sentences handed down in 2020 by the Supreme Court in cases related to crimes against sexual freedom.
Among other conclusions, this report, a pioneer in the matter, reveals that in seven out of ten cases (68.1% of those analyzed), the victims of sexual assault were children.
Also, that practically all the adult victims were women (97.7%), while in the case of minors this percentage decreased to 68.4%, as children were also the object of this type of criminal practice. .
A part of the report, whose publication is carried out coinciding with the
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
, has been prepared by
Miguel Lorente,
forensic, tenured professor at the University of Granada and member of the Observatory's group of experts and consists of in a medico-legal and forensic study of the cases.
In the 30 cases of sexual violence against adults, 44 victims were counted. Of these, 43 were women and the last one, a man.
One in four of these attacks were group attacks.
The nineteen involved in the 8 cases of these characteristics gave an average of 2.4 aggressors in each multiple aggression.
The cases with underage victims totaled 64, with a total of 95 victims: 65 girls and 30 boys.
A distinctive element of sexual violence against minors is the duration, an element on which information is collected in 49 sentences.
In a third of these cases, the situation of violence lasted for several months;
14.3% for one year and 12.2% for two years.
The study reveals that the assaults lasted for 5 and 6 years in 10.2% of cases and up to 7 or more years in another 12.2%.
The aggressors, relatives
The second most committed crime against girls and boys was sexual assault, with 28.1%, with 53.6% continuing.
Crimes related to pornography represented 6.5%, while those related to the prostitution of minors were 4.7% of those analyzed.
When the victims are minors, the difference is that, in this case, the majority of the aggressors (37.7%) are part of the family;
they are known through family and neighborhood relationships (31.2%) or acquaintances from the educational, leisure or sports fields (24.7%).
In 7.8% of the cases, the contact between the aggressor and the minor took place through social networks.
A more in-depth analysis of the group of minors who are part of the family reveals that more than half of them (54.5%) had a biological relationship with the victim, they were parents, grandparents, uncles, etc .;
and that in 45.5% of these cases of domestic violence, the aggressor was the child's biological father or his mother's current partner.
