November 25, 2021Covid infections and fatal cases at work in the foreground in the 21st Inail report: 183 thousand complaints since the beginning of the pandemic with 782 fatal cases. Last October alone there were 1,511 complaints, the northern regions stand out (42.3% in the North-West), the number of infected workers exceeds that of workers in all regions with 68.3%.



The decrease in the last 10 months


From January to November 2021 cases are down by 57.2% - compared to the same period in 2020 - the 183,147 cases of contagion in the workplace reported overall in the last two years, are equal to more than one sixth of the total number of accident reports. 



Workers who died from Covid: 1/4 of the total


The deaths at work from Covid-19 - reported to Inail since the beginning of the pandemic - are 782, over a quarter of the total deaths reported to the institute since January 2020, with an incidence of 0.6% compared to the total of national deaths reported by the Higher Institute of Health on the same date. 



Especially in the north of the country


In the territorial analysis: a distribution of complaints of 42.3% in the North-West (first Lombardy with 25.1%), 24.6% in the North-East (Veneto 10.5%) , 15.3% in the Center, 12.9% in the South and 4.9% in the Islands. The provinces most affected by the infections are Milan (9.6%), Turin (6.9%), Rome (5.3%), Naples (4.0%).

The provinces with the most deaths since the beginning of the pandemic are Naples (8.1%), Rome (7.7%), Milan (6.6%), Bergamo (6.4%), Brescia and Turin. (4.0% each).

The majority of fatal cases concern men (83.2%) and workers aged 50-64 (71.8%). 



Almost 70% of infections are women


The female share of the total reports of contagion from Covid-19 at work is 68.3%: infected workers exceed those of workers in all regions except Calabria, Sicily and Campania, where the incidence of women on the complex of infections of occupational origin is respectively - 48.8%, 45.8% and 44.2%.
